Dirty Boots @ Proud & I hate the tube
I don't like to complain on my blog as I read tooooo many blogs which are pointless rants, but.....
I really really hate the tube. Though also, I can't live without it. Maybe that's part of the problem. As licensing laws were extended to counter people kicking the crap out of one another at closing times and to help us move closer to a 24 society (?), why doesn't the transport system follow suit? Possibly something to do with the strength of the unions holding the captial to ransom everytime someone is sacked or they want another 20 days holiday added. "They do the repair work at night"....really? Repairing ALL the lines? I doubt that. Even if you just had one north to south, and one east to west line working, life would be simpler and safer for a lot of Londoners. They'd be less people stranded, as the time of the last train seems to vary wildly, less people would use illegal minicabs which are very dangerous (not just to women, I was pulled from a written-off minicab because the guy couldn't drive, never passed his test) and pubs/clubs would get extra business.
Yes I got stranded again last night. :-(
And delayed this morning.
Anyway, rant over, I'm in a happy mood this morning as I'm really looking forward to lunch with a friend. A good excuse for spagetti.
I went to Dirtyboot's night at Proud Galleries last night. Seems his night is drawing a lot of attention. It should because I know how hard he works at putting his nights together. The bands were excellent (from what I remember), and the atmosphere was great too. Can't understand why they'd want to knock that place down.
I got there about 9.30 with Chalky after a few cheeky beverages in the O'Neils on Wardour street. We were discussing the setting up of these nights and the alterations he's making to his venue. All sounds exciting at this point.
After a bit of jiggery pokery at the door, we got in and watched Let's Wrestle which was excellent fun. It took me about 10 mins before I realised I had drunk too much, again. So I made my remaining beer last the rest of the evening. Got talking to a history teacher who'd just got back from Africa where she was building huts with a class of 30. You can get into quite interesting conversations with a History teacher. It's also quite difficult to fake being a intellectual when talking to a proper grown-up academic. :-)
I thought Poppy and the Jezabels were headlining, they're worth checking out, but I went to the bar after them and missed the last band which everyone said were really amazing. They're called The Strange Death of Liberal England. They're playing Barfly next month I think.
Much thanks to DirtyBoots for the invite and putting a good show on. A good evening was had by all.

I totally agree re the transport.. it's ridiculous.. I was in a horrible mini cab crash too.. although I wasn't hurt thankfully.. we crashed into someone, who came straight up onto the bonnet, and cracked the windscreen. horrible. oh yes and there was the time my female friend got beaten up by a driver who decided to change his fare at the last minute... in fact when I think about it now I can't believe how many times I got into into one of those cabs.. but I was drunk, and 20.. so there you go...
Oh man!!! IB, that is just awful!!! I really sympathize with you over the lack of overnight transportation. It just SUX the way these companies claim to be "people oriented", but then callously leave them stranded overnight. (-We kinda have people oriented issues with our hospitals here, but we won't go there)
Any chance you could car pool with someone from work when you go on these excursions? -Offer to kick-in some cash for gas..., Buy them a pint....
How is it these illegal cabs are still able to operate? Maybe the law should do a crack-down on them. These things shouldn't be happening to people who just want to get home.
Dude, that just SUX!!! -I really feel bad for you all.
