Dude, Where's My Evening?
I left pretty much on time, kept this evening clear to do..well ... stuff and by the time I get around to stuff it's 10pm. By the time I've stopped thinking "Gosh, this evening's gone quickly" it's 11.30. On top of that I have to be up early for some department training thing that runs into the evening. Crap, another day gone.
Luckily I've left my ears in the hands of Sigur Ros and Iron and Wine to help me unwind. Have had some very stressful weeks. All sorts going on and looking forward to a holiday I think.
I decided to learn SR's 'Hoppipolla' as I really like the piano part in it. The words are quite difficult as it's in Icelandic. I mentioned that to a couple of people who were really surprised and could have sworn it's in English, they've just never listened to the words. With lines like "Ég lamdi eins fast og ég get" it's difficult not to spot it might be a bit foreign. There are so many layers of sound, it's a truely great uplifting track and I really like it. Though it got synchronised to a lot of things over here so it got played too much at one point I think. Anyway, I'll stop gushing about it. Check them out if you get chance.
As for Iron and Wine, whispered vocals over some great guitar playing and really ....something. Not quite articulate enough to come up with some clever reference and succinct description. All I can say is I think it's great.
Jujitsu tomorrow and really up for it. Looking forward to the release. Got four new chaps starting which should be good. I like the social element to the class almost as much as the class itself. I'm sure they'll be a pub visit after.
Was meant to be seeing The Juice but the training runs too late so I'll just grab the end of my class instead. I will make it to a gig, I will.
If any of you are Iceland out there let me know, I need your help.

I'm not from Iceland, it only feels here like that name sounds and suggests.
Faaaaantatic song there by Sigur Ros. -One song I wish I had made up!
Being unemployed, for the moment, I had a couple minuetes to look around. (-intentional mis-spelling there) and I've GOT to say that my scheduling is messed up at the moment, and I understand what you're going through there...
(-Ya know, listening and posting when we can...)
Ummm, any chance you have a recording you could post of you playing their piano part? ;-)
Yeah, as easy as it may sound, some things really are more difficult to pull off.
-For example: -I'd love to hear a professionally sounding version of my songs, no matter WHO plays them. -The problem is, I want paid and recognized too.
Next, even Rush had occasional lyrics in French... (-As Canadian as they are...) so future songwriters ought to try to be more aware of the importance of the things they say, despite the language they speak, or sing in.
(-I don't want to know what "knappy-headded ho's sounds like in ANY language.)
-Never know who's gonna listen...
Anyways, FAAAANTASTIC song you chose to gush about!
I wish them well, and you do well with your exercizes!
yes I thought I would be able to have a piano as soon as I owned my own place... but unfortunately the top floor/no lift scenario means that it'll cost me an arm and a leg to pay someone to lug it up here...
